Son: Dad, I’m now a good artist. Do you know how I became a good artist? I went to a website, typed in “art,” it showed me art, so now I’m a good artist.

Adoption Support Group

We attended our first post-adoption support group meeting tonight.

On the way home, we tried to engage the kids in a discussion about how each of the classes went:

Me: What did you talk about tonight?
Son: Bunch of boring stuff. Like kind things to say.

100% on a Chapter Test!

One of the kids has been struggling with math lately.

On Monday, the child brought home a math test with 100% written by the teacher at the top of the page. Needless to say, Jennifer and I were very happy. We even went so far as to take the child out for ice cream after a trip to the grocery store.

Tuesday evening, I hear the child make an announcement: “Now I remember how I got a 100 on my math test. We did it together as a class.”

Food for the Hungry

For our youngest’s birthday party, his buddies brought food to donate to the local food bank instead of giving gifts.

As we were taking the food to the food bank, I was explaining what they will do with the food.

Me: They’re going to give this food to people who need food. People who are hungry.
Son: Like Nana and Pop Pop?
Me: No, Nana and Pop Pop have food. They’re not hungry.
Son: The Indians?

We’ll try again to explain the concept of donating food some other time.

Watching Jeopardy

We just finished watching Jeopardy. It was a special episode where two former champions played against Watson, an IBM computer.

Watson destroyed the competition. “He” knew his answers and was quick to respond.

When the show ended, Shea’s analysis: “I just want to punch Watson. Make him lose his artificial intelligence.”
